Whether it’s for a walk at sunset, beach fishing at twilight, a relaxing swim, scuba diving or even to ride a wave on your board, the Gold Coast beaches are famous for their clean, warm blue waters, golden sands and non-stop sunshine. The most popular of the patrolled surf beaches on the Gold Coast include Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, The Spit, Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach, Miami & Nobby Beach.

There is close to 57 km of clear waters, beautiful golden sands, great waves for surfers, sheltered bays and estuaries; with life savers patrolling all the major Gold Coast beach locations in Queensland. The Gold Coast Council patrols the  beaches using a series of helicopters, boats, jet skis and watercraft, making it the perfect beach destination for families.

One of the main visual sights of the coast is certainly the impressive skyscrapers and high rise apartments that provide much of the Gold Coast accommodation needed to house the ever growing number of holiday makers to the region.

Main Beach

Main Beach gets its name from the fact that it was the main surf beach for the town of Southport. Its located on the eastern side of the Broadwater and is bounded by The Spit to the north, extending to Surfers Paradise to the south.

Either walk from Surfers Paradise or ride your bike to this popular Gold Coast beach. View the surf from the car park, grab your fishing rod and head on down to the jetty or hire one of the many varieties of surf boards, wake boards or body boards.

Surfers Paradise Beach

Surfers Paradise beach extends for almost 3 kilometres, with its soft rolling waves perfect for the beginner surfer. Where else can you walk from the main business and retail district onto pristine white sandy beaches and catch a wave.

Surfers Paradise is the heart of the Gold Coast with the busiest stretch of beach around. This famous stretch of the ocean is a perfect swimming beach, where you can casually join others in a game of social volleyball on the sand or if you'd prefer, there's plenty of room for you take out your favourite surfboard and have a ride of the waves.

Broadbeach Beach

Just a few kilometres south of Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach is now one of the major destinations for tourists on the Gold Coast.  It has a safe surf beach that hosts some of Australia's major surf life saving competitions.  A wide pedestrian shopping and a café precinct lies just off the beach, with children’s play equipment and fairground rides that operate all year.

The surfing is consistent at Broadbeach, although small at times. If there's little surf around on the coast, you can generally pick up clean left and right handers along this stretch of ocean, or take a walk along the ocean paths and enjoy the beach markets in Kurrawa Park or nearby trendy shops.

Burleigh Heads Beach

Always popular for family holidays, Burleigh Heads is located midway between Southport to the north and Coolangatta in the south. It is within easy reach of the lively nightlife to the north and the more relaxed family atmosphere of the southern beaches.

The beaches in Burleigh are lined with beautiful parkland, with picnic and BBQ areas. Burleigh Heads is renowned for its good surfing beach and it regularly hosts surfing and iron-man competitions.

Southport Broadwater

The Gold Coast Broadwater is a very  popular destination for all water sports enthusiasts and jet-skiing, windsurfing and parasailing are extremely popular, with rentals available for visitors.

The Spit

The Spit is easy to get to being located just north of Main Beach and Surfers Paradise, is always reliable and a definite swell magnet. This is one of the best surfing beaches on the northern end of the Gold Coast.

Mermaid Beach

Situated south of the town centre is Mermaid Beach, being somewhat quieter than Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach makes this beach's tranquil surroundings seem endless. With the small swell, sheltered picnic areas ,bike tracks and children's playground you could say this is the perfect family beach!

Miami Beach

A peaceful and relaxing beachfront, Miami has a broad number of BBQ and picnic areas. Walk up the cliff to enjoy the amazing views of the surround coastline.

Palm Beach

Palm beach offers a boardwalk with numerous table and chairs on the beachfront. Enjoy the open beach or relax while the children play in the playground. With several groin walls along the stretch, good sand banks are created and they deliver a terrific beach break.

Tallebudgera caters for everyone. Head to the surf or enjoy the still waters of Tallebudgera Creek.

Currumbin Beach

Currumbin Beach is situated at the southern end of the Gold Coast. The area is popular with families who are looking for somewhere away from the all the action of some of their northern neighbours. Currumbin Beach has some special rock pools and the surf is small enough for leisurely swimming.

Nobby Beach

Nobby beach is a quiet beach for the family to relax. Take a stroll and view the magnificent sunrise.

Bilinga Beach

Enjoy the open beach of Bilinga or take a relaxing stroll along the walkway.

Tugun Beach

Tugun beach features BBQ and picnic areas making it a fantastic beach for families. The open beach is great for the family.

Currumbin Beach

Currumbin sports impressive views in all directions, while young families enjoy the gentle surf and rock pools. Currumbin beach is well known for its clean beaches.

Kurrawa Beach

Home to the Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club, excellent parklands and nearby dining and shopping. Plenty of space for a family BBQ, make sure you check out the great playground facilities and duck pond.

Coolangatta Beach

Coolangatta offers popular protected beaches with great surfing. Stroll along the bistros and cafes or enjoy the fantastic views from Point Danger.

Greenmount Beach

Greenmount Beach and Rainbow Bay are the Gold Coast's only North facing beaches providing sheltered conditions for swimming. A walk around the point to Snapper Rocks improves your chances of seeing the whales on their annual migration throughout the cooler parts of the year.

Escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the gentle surf of Greenmount beach. Spend the afternoon swimming and lazing on the sand or, in the cooler months, take a walk around the point to catch a glimpse of the whales on their annual migration.

Rainbow Bay

Rainbow Bay offers an extensive sandy beach and a sheltered area for swimmers close to shore. Stroll up to Point Danger and enjoy the magnificent views from all directions.
