Gold Coast’s major sporting events include a range of triathlon events, held during various seasons in a year. One of the most favourite sporting events is the Gold Coast Half Ironman triathlon.

As one of the most successful sporting events of the region, the Gold Coast Half Ironman triathlon is one of the premier sporting events in Queensland that has run over 15 successful years. Every year, the event experiences a rise in the number of participants and spectators. In 2010, there was a record-breaking figure in the number of participants with 1500 contenders, and with its increasingly high popularity, the Gold Coast Half Ironman triathlon is a major draw card in the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Half Ironman October 2012

Held at the stunning Calypso Bay, the Gold Coast Half Ironman triathlon welcomes all experienced and novice athletes to take part and compete in this amazing series. The series includes one lap of swimming, two laps of cycle racing and three laps of running. In total, the event includes three racing events of 113 kilometres. The swimming race is 1.9kms, where as the cycling and running race is 90km and 21.1km.

Numerous popular Aussie athletes take part in this amazing event, and there are also a number of triathlon stars who have made their fame and name through this event. Some of the popular favourites include athletes such as Tim Berkel, Callum Millward, Chris Kemp and Clayton Fettell. There is also a number of female triathletes who have taken part in this amazing event. Matilda Raynolds is one of them who had taken part in this race.
