Clothing What To Wear On The Gold Coast Queensland Australia

A brief look on clothing and what to wear while staying on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Most Queensland locals dress quite casually, although the dress code in some restaurants, hotels, bars and nightclubs is smart-casual or formal. You can usually wear thongs out anywhere, but usually bars and nightclubs may only allow you in if you have closed or street wear shoes.

Do pack swim wear! Even the cooler winter months offer warm weather and bright sunshine throughout the day. You can wear lightweight clothing all year round; however do bring something warm to wear at night, just in case the temperature drops during winter months.

The mountain and Hinterland areas tend to be a lot cooler and are raining on occasions, so be prepared with a warm jacket and a heavy coat in the cooler months.

Remember to wear comfortable shoes when walking in the national parks and consider wearing long sleeved clothing and don’t forget the insect repellent.

Don't forget to bring the sunscreen!
The main purpose of clothing when visiting the Gold Coast is to protect you from the sun. Here are some good simple rules to follow:

Try to stay out of the warm sun during the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 11am and 3pm. Drink plenty of water in the warmer months to stay hydrated.

Wear long sleeved shirts and a broad-brimmed hat while not swimming. It worthy to invest in a wide brimmed hat that provides shade for your face, neck and ears.

Wear sunscreen that offers protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Use at least SPF15, but a SPF30 is more recommended. Reapply sunscreen after two hours, especially if you have been in the water. Also wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from damaging UV rays.

Do not leave your children in the hot sunshine for longer than 20 minutes at a time, without clothing protection. Keep babies out of direct sunlight at all times. For kids, spandex swimming tops designed as large t-shirts, protect the torso and arms from the sun. It's also possible to buy pants in this material that completely shelter the body from the sun.

Make sure you pack a beach bag so you can keep all your belongings in when you go swimming, but make sure you don’t mind if it gets sandy.

If you forget the sunscreen, the best thing for sunburn is Aloe vera gel which you can get from supermarkets or chemists.
